Welcoming the rain..

A fantastic photo taken just before the heavens opened, whilst we were busy planting Organic Christmas Tree Seedlings here at Magic of Foresters.

Rainfall is incredibly important for the survival of plants and animals. It brings freshwater to the earth’s surface.

We work in all weathers and the rain is welcomed just as much as the sunshine is here on the farm.

The Year of a Thousands Stumps

After Christmas, Spring is the busiest time of the year for us here at Magic of Foresters.

It’s been planting season where we have to prepare the land ready to plant trees that will be going to your homes in 8-10 years time.

And this year it started with digging out the old stumps - all 1,500 of them. We are always trying ways we can better look after the land - and this year we decided to dig them all out by hand. This allowed us to minimise the damage to the soil as we avoided using diggers.

Two weeks later and they were all out. What started as an experiment ended with a peaceful kind of zen - you get into a beautiful rhythm where it’s only you and the stump that exist in the moment.

Meditation, movement and natural harmony all in one ️

The deadly killer…

… that's such a welcome sight on our farm.

Who would have thought the humble ladybird would be a deadly killer? But it’s true. Not to us, but to the aphids that damage the trees.

Did you know that one ladybird can eat over 4000 aphids in its lifetime!

These lovely little creatures are one of the best friends we have in keeping our trees happy and healthy. And thanks to organic farming we are able to create the perfect habitat for them to survive and thrive. No chemicals mean a happy ladybird!

Ladybirds have long been associated with us here in the family. Every year we would get to this time of year to find a contingent of them in the house that we would have to lovingly remove!

The End of an Era

Alan, who started Magic of Foresters back in the 1960s had two real passions - farming and his Lagonda 3 litre Tourer.

A founder member of the Lagonda Club he owned this magical car since 1955, rebuilding the engine twice himself, featuring in two books, and winning best in class at the 2007 Lagonda Club concourse. As a Calvary officer at the end of WW2, he not only had a good experience with machines (he was in tanks) but extremely high standards. Hours were spent in the garage tinkering and keeping this car immaculate.

But like all things in life, there is a time to say goodbye. When he passed away, along went the know-how to maintain this. So it’s off to auction to find it’s new owner who will hopefully love and cherish this beautiful car as much as Alan did
